The old Nokia announce tomorrow a mysterious new product
By a simple tweet from its official account, Nokia has confirmed the announcement during tomorrow from a mysterious new product which could mean the return of the Finnish company to the consumer market ; a market abandoned after the purchase by Microsoft of the mobile phone division.
The only clue we have about this new product is an image in which we see a black box with the logo of Nokia, which further opens the range of possibilities. The logical choice is that it is a smartphone, although the less likely. And remember that Nokia can not use its own brand for commercial purposes until 2016, when ending the agreement with Microsoft. So in the unlikely event that it is a smartphone, it does not come under the branding Nokia.
The option that seems most likely that of a set-top box (an auxiliary device to our television) Android style TV or Apple TV . Three signs that make us reach that conclusion:
- Yes you could use the Nokia brand. Not being related to mobile phone, Nokia could use the branding Nokia in the device without any problems which greatly makes the difference, remember that the Nokia brand is legendary in the world of technology and has a weight enormously.
- The black box of the image. Except in the case of a package, the only product that fits that square is a set-top box . Of course, there is always the possibility that Nokia will prepare for us something totally unexpected.
- The market for set-top box is still very green. This means that Nokia, with a commitment to match, could be one of the leaders in this sector and lead parallel revolution we expect in the world of television. All major industry is trying but none achieved off. Perhaps Nokia itself would be able to press the correct key.
This new product is a set-top box is just a guess. It is possible that Nokia will surprise us tomorrow with a different product than expected. In fact, it is quite likely true, since the direction of this post-Microsoft Nokia is yet to be defined.
What does seem clear is that Nokia despite the looting that Microsoft has made in recent months, still wants to compete in the consumer market . And this is not the only evidence of this.
